A lot of criminal defendants who are convicted receive probation with the rest of their sentence. Anyone who is convicted of a felony or misdemeanor case will either have to serve formal probation or summary probation for one to five years.
Probation may come with many terms and conditions that must be obeyed. Any obligations that are apart of the probation period must be completed in a timely fashion. A person must not be arrested for any reason while on probation. If an individual breaks any rules or neglects to complete any requirements during their probation period, their probation can be revoked and prison time or a jail sentence may occur.
